The Cologne-based coffee roasting company moxxa (also a Slow Food supporter for many years) embarked on an exciting experiment some time ago: actually growing coffee in Europe as a social project together with local farmers on the Canary Island of La Gomera.

After many steps of trial and error and overcoming a few difficulties, we succeeded, hurray.
Linea La Gomera has been available in many stores on the island since last year.
As the harvest is not yet so large due to the young age of the plants, the beans are currently being supplemented with Moxxa organic coffee from Peru and Ethiopia to produce a delicious blend.

Sven Johannsen, a member of our management team, used his vacation on La Gomera to visit the coffee plantations.
He was very impressed by the cultivation.
Smaller fields adapted to the landscape, wild herbs and papaya trees growing between the coffee bushes.

And the taste of the pick-me-up was also convincing in all 4 variations.

Many thanks, Slow Food Cologne and Sven Johannsen, for this great report.
